Embodied Bellydance ® framework is composed of all or parts listed bellow. Classes are usually 2 hours in length. whilst workshop or intensives begin at 2 to 3 hours up to 5 days or more.
Each Workshop or Intensive is different as each group is different. The amount of time dedicated to each topic will depend a lot on the group and the request of the school or individual who wish to learn about Embodied Bellydance®
From my Dance Movement Therapy training I embrace what is called the Conscious Healing Dance or the Quantum Healing Dance as taught by Marcia Levanthal. The healing takes place in the Quantum, whilst being held in a Newtonian framework. Newtonian is referred to as “Core” Dance Movement Therapy, bound by time and space. We work with the known, the concrete, through cause and effect. I use Embodied Bellydance® framework to support what we do. I hold classes, workshops and Intensives using the 5-part session that is governed by what is being taught or explored with any given group or class. The Body processes I work with particularly in the warm up, are body image/boundaries and sensory and perceptual motor skills. I name the range we are working with: force, time, space and flow. I bring the participants to the here and now, for example, standing in a circle feeling our feet on the ground.
Embodied Bellydance is not Dance Therapy, it is a Somatic based training that goes deep to the core of movement which in turn goes deep to the core of the personality. There is then also room for Healing. Many things can arise when we dance.
Depending on the length of the work shop, we will basically follow the plan, but there will be freedom to vary the direction and to allow the focus to be more on one thing and less on another if need be. The focus will be will depend on the moment, the group or the request of the school or individual. It is important to remain fluid. After all fluidity is one of the essential ingredients of Bellydance.
The content is vast and to Embody it takes time.
